600 Aussie cyclists to test NZ trails
The past year has seen major progress being made not only on the construction of the New Zealand Cycle Trail Great Rides, but also in marketing, promotion and public awareness of Nga Haerenga. Over 600 Australian cyclists are expected to descend on Gisborne for the 2012 Great Escapade next month – with 520 “tourists on bikes” and 110 volunteers and supporters. The cyclists will ride via Matawai, staying the night in Opotiki
before arriving in Whakatane on 21FEB for a “rest day”.

local artist/teacher Jacqui Kay to run the workshop.

Rob Fyfe reassures on London ops
In his latest message to Air New Zealand staff, CEO Rob Fyfe has responded to mounting concerns about the airline’s commitment to maintaining the NZ-London route. He says: “It’s no secret that we are struggling to make London profitable, just as our competitors are also struggling in this task, not just on London but on most ultra-long haul routes. Passenger numbers are flat at best and, when put against the backdrop of economic turmoil in Europe, any pick up in demand for long haul air travel from London looks unlikely in the foreseeable future.
